Death By Distraction

A word of caution, you may want to glance up from your phone to see what's going on...

The gunman in San Fran pulled out his gun on a crowded Muni light rail, waved it around, even scratched his nose with it, and NO ONE on the train noticed.  They were too busy looking at their phones.  The article said that officials were troubled by the lack of attention to their surroundings by the passengers.  Sadly, SFSU student Justin Valdez was shot and killed by the gunman.

Why is it so hard to look up from our smartphones?  Why are we so enraptured?  Are we bored?  Afraid of missing something?

Take fountain girl...
